February Monthly Summary

I commented on Group 1

Throughout this first part of the class I have learned a lot about adult education, its history and many of the pioneers that led the way to get to where we are currently with adult education. Men like Malcolm Knowles that dedicated almost his entire adult life to helping adult learners achieve their goals. Women like Rosa Parks who was part of the Highlander Project and stood up against racial inequality and changed the world. I think in some way I realize in any area of life there were people that led the way. It’s not until you read or write about them you truly understand how much of an impact they really have had. I have enjoyed learning in this class so far and am looking forward to what lies ahead.

  1. February Monthly Review
Our group members are: Kyndra Haggard, Ray Harmon, Daniel Simons, Mariatu Swayne, and Abigail Vannatta
We have decided to do the first portion of our project on Malcolm Knowles and Booker T. Washington, which are two very influential adult/community educators. We started by throwing out names as a group on who we would like to research. We narrowed it down to the chosen two. We then broke up into two teams and each team is tackling one educator. After each group is done with their portion by the date we have set, we will review each all the work and compile. One person will be responsible for compiling and one will confirm double check our APA citations.
So far we feel our team has been worked well together and stayed on task with our time frame. We have not had any major challenges yet. The biggest piece to this is starting early and setting realistic deadlines as a group. All group member have taken responsibility for their portions and contributed fully.
We all have learned more about these educators and how everything they studied and implemented affects us our learning processes today. It has been nice to begin tying everything together. We have studied what is adult community education, we’ve researched the history of and its effects in different decades and now researching influencers more in depth. We begin to see trends on how different ideas and challenges overlap and how one educator picks up where one left off. They begin to add and delete to make this a more modern aspect of learning.
Our future plans will be to begin looking at the next portion of our project and break it up into smaller pieces. We will probably take the same approach as far as brainstorming two organizations, then dividing up into teams. We will then bring it all together for peer review and compilation.

  2. Sounds like your group is off to great start. I think you will find Malcolm Knowles fascinating! I just did a paper on him and there is lots of information out there. My group is also doing our paper on Booker T. Washington. I also like how you have your APA citations being double checked. I may suggest that to our group.

---------- This is a very good observation!

I am glad your group worked well together and you developed a good working system.
